The reality and experience of Alzheimer’s disease is overwhelming. There is no denying that reality. But, if that is the only reality we accept, we are left with little hope and little reason to respond in life-giving and affirmative ways. Today there are voices in the Alzheimer’s care community calling us to a deeper understanding of the disease, to new ways of responding (and in so doing) to new ways of understanding ourselves and moving beyond the current paradigm of fear.
