Resident Pattie Milligan Welcomes Friends to the Garden and the Kitchen

If you are looking for England Oaks resident Pattie Milligan, you need only follow your nose to her backyard, a vibrant garden oasis, alive and vivid with colors and fragrances, making a visit a treat for the senses.

“I just ordered five more rose bushes!” she said smiling.

While her green thumb alone would give anyone garden envy, Pattie’s talents extend from the garden to the kitchen, where her reputation for preparing delicious, home-cooked meals, together with her generous hospitality, have regularly welcomed her neighbors to her dining table  — pre-pandemic that is.

“People are very friendly at England Oaks,” she said, “If you drive down the road, people wave at you. It is our own little community. Having friends over for dinner is what we do.” As the pandemic winds down, Pattie is looking forward to once again hosting meals for her friends and enjoying the garden together.

When Pattie is not gardening, cooking up a storm or making the drive to Lafayette to work as a tax accountant, she’s busy working on a quilt for one of her grandchildren. She has made close to 25 quilts since she took up the hobby again in 2019.

Thanks to the freedom she finds at England Oaks, she enjoys what she loves most: quilting, her business, church and her close-knit community, without worrying about home upkeep and mundane chores.

England Oaks is special,” Pattie said. “I love so many things, from the phenomenal staff to the low-maintenance living. But most of all, I like being surrounded by friends in a peaceful community.”
