For more than a decade, these lovely gathering spots have played host to numerous social events, exercise classes, dances and concerts. The views are spectacular and the company is even better.
“Our Skyroom patios are the social hubs of our community,” said Kingsley Manor Life Enrichment Director Raymond Ruiz. “Residents love being there. The spaces are so versatile and the views are spectacular.”
Located on the rooftop of Kingsley’s Leitzel Hall, a six-story building on the west end of campus, the two spaces sit at opposite ends of the building. The north patio faces the Hollywood Hills, iconic Hollywood Sign and the Griffith Observatory while the south patio looks upon the Los Angeles Skyline and beyond.
Before the pandemic, residents could be found on either patio enjoying rooftop concerts, barbeques, holiday parties, happy hour, yoga and even S’mores parties using the fire pits.
“I think it’s one of the nicest places on campus,” said resident Janet Goggins, who lives in a residence below. “The sunsets from here are magnificent! Just being here gives you the feeling of freedom.”
Even during the pandemic, when Kingsley was observing relaxed health and safety protocols during the summer, residents enjoyed outdoor, socially distanced Bingo and line dancing.
“Even when there is no specific event taking place, residents like to come to the Skyroom patios and relax,” Raymond said. “On warm days, residents like the cool breezes and on cool days, space heaters make it comfortable to relax with a good book.”
The north patio was constructed first in 2008. It became such a popular part of the community that the south patio was added in 2019. Funds to construct the two were raised by Kingsley’s philanthropic partner Pacific Homes Foundation to which many residents and others donated.
