Home Seekers must provide verifiable income of at least twice the monthly rent or demonstrate comparable savings. Home Match also works with individuals who use third-party rental subsidies.
As part of the eligibility process, Home Seekers complete a standard background check that reviews criminal history and evictions. The screening does not affect your credit score.

Complete your application online, by email, or by mail. You’ll need to provide the requested income documentation and photo ID.
We’ll schedule an in-person or virtual intake to get to know you, review your application, verify your information, and better understand what you’re looking for in a home.
A background check is completed by all participants before moving forward with the matching process.
Once the intake process is completed your background check is approved, your profile becomes active and the matching process begins.
Once we identify a possible match, we’ll share the opportunity with you and the Home Provider. If you’re both interested, we’ll help coordinate an introduction and guide you through the next steps.
References are shared with participants to check, giving you and the Home Provider another opportunity to learn more about each other before making a decision.
If you both feel comfortable moving forward, you’ll meet with our team to discuss expectations and complete a Living Together Agreement (LTA) before move-in.
Once the agreement is complete, you can move in and begin your home-sharing arrangement. Our team will check in after move-in.
We’ll continue to stay connected after your match. Our team provides quarterly check-ins and shares resources and mediation support as needed.

No. Home Match is completely free for Home Seekers. There are no application, background check, or matching fees. Once you move in, you are responsible for the monthly rent agreed upon with your Home Provider.
In some matches, yes. A Home Provider may choose to offer reduced rent in exchange for agreed-upon light household help, such as taking out the trash, carrying groceries, or helping with errands.
Task exchanges are completely optional, limited to a maximum of 10 hours per week, and cannot include personal caregiving.
If you and a Home Provider decide you’d like to move forward, the Home Match team helps you discuss expectations and establish the details of your living arrangement through a Living Together Agreement (LTA).
The agreement can cover rent, shared spaces, household routines, guest expectations, and other important details. After move-in, Home Match Marin continues to provide ongoing support, resources, referrals, and assistance when needed.
