Meet England Oaks Residents Ward and Linda Crowe

It was in 1995 when Ward walked into the insurance company where Linda worked, on the pretense of buying a policy to cover his truck. But there was something about Ward’s flirtatious manner that made Linda question his motivations. “It was obvious that he was not there to buy insurance,” she said with a smile. Ward left without a policy, but managed to finagle something even better – Linda’s phone number.

Two years later they were married.

Around 2007, the couple moved to England Oaks Adult Living Community from Toledo Bend Lake. “There was a lot of upkeep involved with having a lake house, plus we were about 15 miles from the nearest town,” Linda explained.

From the quiet tree-lined streets to the convenient location near town, the couple fell in love with England Oaks. The fact that maintenance was included sealed the deal. “When my refrigerator broke, the staff provided a temporary fridge and made arrangements for a repairman to come out the same day,” Linda said. “That would have been a real ordeal if we’d been in our old place.”

Ward and Linda are immersed in community life. They have participated on the Resident Advisory Board and host the weekly Bible study group. “We’ve had to adapt during COVID for sure,” Linda explained. “We do temperature checks, wear masks and socially distance. But getting to see our friends again makes it all worth it.”

The couple agree, it’s really the people in this close-knit community who set England Oaks apart. “We all care for one another,” Ward explained.

“This is home, that’s all I can tell you.” Linda smiled.
