Here’s a roundup of articles, news stories and media mentions that feature Front Porch or its communities, programs and services.
On May 1, Villa Gardens was mentioned as a sponsor of the City of Pasadena’s Older Americans Month celebrations in a May 1st article in Pasadena Now.
St. Paul’s Towers resident Mary Strauss is featured in an article by the League of Women Voter’s, Oakland, profiling her more than 50 years of service.
On May 8, the Marin Independent Journal shared that the Front Porch Communities Foundation was selected as one of the recipients of federal funds earmarked for housing and public service projects. The $7,000 grant will provide funding for bilingual outreach for Home Match Marin to reach new prospective home providers to stabilize housing via home sharing. Home Match Marin aims to reach and engage prospective home providers living in Marin City, the Canal, Novato and West Marin.
Home Match was also featured in Marin Living, and Luke Barnesmoore, director of strategy, shared an opinion piece in the Marin Independent Journal (paywalled) on preventing homelessness among older adults. In addition, the Washington Post quoted Barnesmoore in an article on June 18th, where he shared “home-sharing is now an essential social service for seniors and workers unable to afford a place to live. ‘We’re now in the space of homeless prevention,’ he said.”
NewsNationNow also interviewed Barnesmoore to share a story on “Boommates” for its weekend news show, and Steve Moran wrote about Home Match as a senior living alternative, and opportunity for employee housing, on Senior Living Foresight.
KRON’s Live! in the Bay featured a segment on the Ruth’s Table exhibition Radical Resilience (pictured above).
Donna Quick, housing administrator for CARING Housing Ministries’ Lytton Gardens in Palo Alto, talked about the struggle of helping low income older adults – especially those of color.
On June 9, the San Diego Union Tribune published a feature article about Casa de Mañana as it celebrates its centenary. Casa de Mañana is part of the La Jolla Park Coastal Historic District and is one of San Diego’s designated historic landmarks. Front Porch also shared a press release, celebrating the community’s 100th anniversary.
